New Raspberry Pi 5 is coming up
Great ! Will the Moodle image work the same on it ? Thanks
Eloiseler
Hi Eloise, I think that the next MoodleBox Image will be based on the new Raspberry Pi OS with Debian Bookworm. And this image will also work with the Raspberry Pi 5. The current MoodleBox image is based on Debian Bullseye and this software does NOT work with the Raspberry Pi 5.
I can‘t say if I would use the Raspberry Pi 5 as a MoodleBox. It need much more electrical energy than a Raspberry Pi 4. Also it costs more money. Yes, I will get a Raspberry Pi 5 and I will test it with the MoodleBox software. But I think that the Raspberry Pi 4 has enough power to host the MoodleBox.

Eloiseler It is naturally my intention to make MoodleBox work with it. But I do NOT have a pre-release of a Raspberry Pi 5, and cannot make promises about how and when a RPi 5 compatible image will be released.
Anyway, you can follow the whole MoodleBox development here: https://github.com/moodlebox/moodlebox.
Hint: if anyone can sponsor me a Raspberry Pi 5 , this would make the whole thing quicker and easier.
I believe the R Pi5 offers better WiFi throughput than the 4, which could be useful. However I also appreciate the benefit of the lower price and power consumption of the 4. I wonder if it is possible to "under clock" the 5 to reduce power consumption, or what add-ons are available to improve the WiFi through put of the 5. Also will the 4 continue to be available.
Is there anybody who tested the MoodleBox 4.6.0 with a Raspberry Pi 5?
Is the Wifi connection better than a Raspberry Pi 4B?
How many devices can connect to a MoodleBox 4.6.0 with Raspberry Pi 5?
ralfkrause How many devices can connect to a MoodleBox 4.6.0 with Raspberry Pi 5?
You should not expect more WiFi clients, if that's what you're asking. Wireless throughput is better (second RPi staff).
PS. Me, I could not get a RPi 5 yet.
I just received a Raspberry Pi 5 in the US (Digikey). I've put the latest MoodleBox image on it, upgraded the MoodleBox plugin, and things are working just great. I'll provide more information over the next few days / week. I don't have a way of testing how many devices can connect to it.
The case is very functional and well designed. It comes with a cooler/fan. I like the on/off button. Looking forward to buying a battery for the onboard RTC, and seeing how well that works along with the changes needed to support that RTC.

I received my RPi 5 yesterday. I'm happy to inform that an image which was built on an old RPi 3B works flawlessly and reliably on the RPi 5 without any change
The performance is stunning! I'm getting consistent scores of 22-25 in the Benchmark report.
Great!
