Edit max filesize limitation.

I'm used to editing php.ini's in order to change these limits but both the *.ini's that I am locating have a upload_max_filesize setting of 2MB. That being said I know I have the wrong file due to the current max of 50MB. I know I'm missing something simple but some help would greatly be appreciated.

PHP settings are set using the nginx configuration file, here: /etc/nginx/sites-available/default.

Simply change the line containing upload_max_filesize=50M and post_max_size=50M to any suitable same value, then save and restart the nginx and php7.0-fpm service, like that:

sudo systemctl restart nginx php7.0-fpm

or reboot the MoodleBox.

Caution: don't mess anything in this file. You're on your own ;-)

Followed as advised but the site max is still 50M.

Edit: I'm afraid I forgot in the above post to indicate you should also change post_max_size=50M on the same line. Sorry, I've edited the post.

Hi, I have a problem with the permissions. I can't save or upload a new changed default file in this directory. Is there any option to get this permission?

Yes, with root permissions. Or copy your file in the moodlebox home directory and move it to the adequate place with sudo.

Because the user root has no password you can‘t connect with this user root to the MoodleBox.

You must do the following. For a file transfer with sftp you can use FileZilla on Linux, macOS or Windows. It‘s very easy to use. The server for sftp is moodlebox.home, the user is moodlebox and the password is Moodlebox4$. You upload files to the personal folder /home/moodlebox.

Now connect to the MoodleBox via ssh in a terminal. ssh moodlebox@moodlebox.home The user is moodlebox again. You are landing in the personal folder again. You should see you uploaded files there. Now you can change to the user root by sudo su and move all files to other places. You also can edit configuration files with nano.

w_wobble You could enable the root user, but it's strongly discouraged for security reasons, so don't do it.

ralfkrause Ok where is my mistake?
I successfully downloaded the default file, I uploaded it again in moodlebox/home. I see it with ls -l
But then I tried to put in in etc/nginx/sites-available/ and get an error. Here are my steps:

ssh moodlebox@moodlebox.home with Passwort Moodlebox4$ and I'm in /home/moodlebox/.
ls -l to check if default (my changed file) is really there. it is.
sudo su put default /etc/nginx/sites-available/ to move it to etc/nginx/sites-available/ but that doesn't work. I get an Error saying "su: user put does not exist or the user entry does not contain all the requiered fields"

So do I have to use an other comand for moving the file or where is my comand wrong.

To copy the file to it’s right place you write the following command line:
sudo cp default /etc/nginx/sites-available/

But as I wrote last time you do not need to download the default file, edit it on your computer and upload it again. You can edit the file directly on the MoodleBox. Connect via ssh as you did before and write the following command line:
sudo nano etc/nginx/sites-available/default

Make your changes and save the file with ctrl-o … and exit the editor with crtl-x. No download, no upload. Now you must restart the web server nginx. You can also restart the MoodleBox completely.

I hope you will get it.

Because put is not a valid shell command to copy files. Maybe you confuse with FTP.

I have an other question: changing the maximum file size (upload_max_filesize and post_max_size) worked fine. I can upload more than 50Mb now but when I want to upload a saved course with more than 50 mb but less than my limit it isn't working.
Any ideas why this is not working but the upload with more than 50 mb is working in Assignment activity and other activities.

Sorry, I don't understand. Can you explain your process step by step?

Important side note: For things such as restoring big courses or uploading big files, you don't need to mess with changing limits if you use the USB or SFTP functionality of MoodleBox. More info about it here.

Nicolas Nevermind. The USB or SFTP funktionality works just fine. So I really didn't mess with the file size.
