Moodle Benchmark report metric
With RPi5, I'm getting consistent scores of 22-25 in Moodle Benchmark report.
Compare with Benchmark score of 61-66 with a RPi4B 8GB, which shows a 2.5x improvement.
MoodleBox build metric
With RPi5, the build duration of a MoodleBox from scratch (build done 2024-01-07), using Ansible, is around 680 seconds (~ 11.5 min). Same build, done 2024-02-22, was 1030 (~ 17 min) long.
With the same infrastructure, the build duration of the same image on a RPi 4B 8GB is around 1208 seconds (~ 30 min), which shows a 3x improvement (just built now: 2024-02-18).
Important note – The MoodleBox build metric comparison with the above figures is not totally reliable, as one of the time-consuming steps of the build is updating the software with apt, which depends a lot of on when you do the build: the later after the release of the official RPi OS image the longer (see dates of above cited builds). For a fair comparison, one should do the builds at the same time (or same date at least).
Conclusion
Anyway, I would say the performance gain is quite important (at least 2.5 times).
