MoodleBox Shutdown - light's still on

I'm using MoodlBox on a Pi 4 1GB. When I do the 'Shutdown' routine of Site Admin>Server>MoodleBox>Dashboard the MoodleBox shuts down, or at least it disconnects from the WIFI, but the red light on the Pi 4 doesn't go off, and I can restart MoodleBox by searching again for MoodleBox.home/. Is that how it's supposed to work?

This is normal. The red LED remains on while adequate power received, so while a power supply is connected.

Nicolas That makes sense because following that described behaviour I need to to reconnect to the WIFI even though it looks like I'm connected to MoodleBox.

So, when MoodleBox has shut down, I can then switch of the Raspberry Pi, correct?(I have an inline power switch which is much more convenient than unplugging.)

Next question on shut down process.

I want to be able to demonstrate MoodleBox using just a Mobile device. I can start up MoodleBox and access it via the Moodle Mobile app but then I don't know how to shut it down.

How can I shut it down?

Hi Dan,
the MoodleBox dashboard is not avialable in the Moodle app. You do not have any access to the site administration in the app.

To show the site administration and to use the MoodleBox dashboard on your smartphone you must open the MoodleBox site in a browser. And there is no difference If you are using a smartphone with Android or iOS or a desktop computer.

I've been turning on https on my test moodlebox instances, but it seems that, in using the app, http might work better on android than https.

I'll give a another try tomorrow, after turning off https.

Hi Dan. I did a little more work on this. I turned my moodleobx to just http. and connected via android phone with moodle app.

This is what I speculate, after reading through some Moodle App FAQ, and trying things out myself.

The Moodle App is meant for students and teachers, not administrators. I don't believe you'll see any capability
to manage the MoodeBox from the Moodle App. If you want your users of the MoodleBox to shutdown, or restart the MoodleBox, you'll need to have them login via a web page with a web browser with a manager or administrator level account, to see those options

(assuming you've had them enable shutdown/restart - on the web page from the MoodleBox setting admin page)

Again, this is just speculation from my reading through some forums (on the Moodle APP) and testing it out myself. I could be wrong.

Indeed, and this is the rule for all Moodle administration features. Moodle app is essentially a tool for students and teachers, not admins.

And yes, as Ralf points it, to use the administrative features of the MoodleBox plugin, you have to visit the MoodleBox with a browser.

danmcguire Disregard. I looked again at the MoodleBox settings page and found the setting to enable the Shut Down button.
That button will only appear to teachers, correct? What is the use case for NOT displaying that button?

A few precisions:

These buttons are only displayed to Moodle admins and managers (not teachers).
The setting you're demonstrating in the video just enables the buttons on any page for admins and managers. However, you can restart/shutdown the MoodleBox directly on the MoodleBox dashboard page (in the very bottom) without enabling this feature, as stated in the documentation. Use case is admins/managers not wanting to over-populate the footer of all the Moodle pages.
The topic of an hardware switch suggested by @Ratna is not a replacement, but another thing that can be added to this. It is also explained in the documentation.
