Now the explanation: your Kiwix installation is perfectly OK, but I suspect your MoodleBox image predates version 3.6.0, so that subdomains are not resolved. You can confirm this by typing this command on your MoodleBox:

cat /etc/moodlebox-info

(please confirm this)

In this case, you can fix the issue to be able to call your Kiwix installation using URL http://kiwix.chatterbox.home/ by adding this line

address=/home/10.0.0.1

in file /etc/dnsmasq.conf. Don't mess anything, or you're screwed up. Then restart dnsmasq service or reboot.

So I was wrong, and this is strange. Does your /etc/dnsmasq.conf contain the line address=/home/10.0.0.1?

Hi it was commented out during the change of domain name as per instructions in https://moodlebox.net/en/help/domain-name-change/:

Step 3: Adapt the DNS server masquerading configuration
Change the file /etc/dnsmasq.conf, replacing home by learn.example.com in the two lines that start with domain and local. Comment out or delete completely the line starting with address.

Good catch, I've to amend this: I thought only of public domain names when writing it. If the domain remains a local one ending with ".home", as yours, you should leave this line.

Edit: This is updated now: "If your domain name is a public one, comment out or delete completely the line starting with address. Otherwise, if your new domain name will remain local, ending with .home, you can keep this line untouched."

Hello,
Until now I have been providing the wiktionary on a USB stick connected to the MoodleBox. But, apart from the raw file to be downloaded, nothing was directly accessible.
So the procedure indicated at the beginning can be followed scrupulously with an assured result?

Hello Ian,
A wiktionary is about 5GB and a Wikipedia about 25GB.
If this is on an external drive (e.g. USB stick) connected to the MoodleBox, the only extra size should be that of the added kiwix subdomain?
Why the huge size?
My microSD cards containing the OS, Moodle, all courses and videos are 64GB. That leaves 55GB available for the trainer.

I have 41 Moodleboxes at various locations so I don't want the cost of having usb sticks for all of them (I did check the cost of sd plus usb stick versus 128gb sd).
Result is I have everything on one sd card: Moodlebox with courses, videos etc. RACHEL for pi [32gb], and Kiwix with wikipedia, wikibooks, Phet simulations, and some TED talks.
Works for me because if a card is corrupted through incorrect shutdown then I just supply a new one.
