I an no security expert either. But I will be happy, if there are no such restrictions which hinder my not so IT savvy users from learning. Remember, the reach of the Wi-Fi is physically limited. In my case, I am in a lab. There is for sure some stray signal in the corridors. Even if somebody in the corridor happens to know the SSID, either he has no log-in to the box. If he had, well then he is a registered user, so wellcome.
OK, if the box happen to route to the Internet that "intruder" can ride on that. But in the developed world a quick connection to Internet is nothing, or say a basic right. In the third world, where I plan to work, there won't be Internet most of the time!
